My shining moment in softball.

Saturday was pretty baseball filled. Mom and I went to watch my little cousin play softball, and then that evening we all went to a Royals game. It was at my cousins softball game that my mom shared this little story that I am about to tell.

When I was little, my parents tried their hardest to make me athletic. I think I played about every sport that was available. Basketball; softball; soccer (I really liked that one); cheerleading; dance. Too bad for them, it was not to be. I am not cut out for sports. But I did have my one shining moment in my softball year.

Picture this: little Whitney standing up to bat, all ready for the pitch coming my way (not really). The pitch is a little high, so I do not swing. What happens? The ball hits the top of my bat behind my head, and rolls a few inches in front of me. As I stare at the ball, everyone is yelling for me to run. So I do. Run to first, then to second, and then on to third. Yes, I made a triple without even having to swing the bat.

You have to catch the other team off guard. Trick them up a little bit.

Struck out my next time up to bat. But that's besides the point.

Kind of a funny story.

I hope people google that movie title and end up here. Ha!

Anyways, on to the story.

When I moved to the city, I brought what I thought was my sewing machine. As in, I picked up my sewing machine case, felt that something was in it, assumed it was my machine, and went with it. When I went to actually use my machine, I found this.

Photobucket

This is not my machine. It is my mom's. And while I would totally be ok with using Mom's sewing machine, as you can tell from the photo, there is no sewing foot.

You see, I used this machine for my art projects my last semester because it worked better with the technique I was using than my newer computer. And when I was sewing on it I had to use a different foot. And now I don't remember where I put the normal one. Whoooops.

So, after work the other day I went and talked to the sewing machine people to see about getting a new foot so that I could actually sew the pillows I have fabric for. And then this convo went down:

Me: I have a really old Singer machine and I need a new foot for it.
Dude: How old is the machine?
Me: Well, I'm 23. And I'm pretty sure it's older than me.
Dude: .......Ooooook!

But seriously, this machine is older than me. And works just fine. As long as I can get a foot.

Turns out he didn't have any feet in stock for it, so I would have to order. But, apparently I can just remove a part from my machine, attach it to this one, and then use the feet from my new machine.

That would be a lot useful if I had my sewing machine with me. But then I would probably just use it instead. So now I still can't sew those throw pillows.

That time I got stitches from hide and seek.

On Sunday evenings, Taylor's family has a family dinner. This past Sunday, after everyone was finished eating, we played hide and seek. Don't worry, his 4 year old neice was the one to get the game started. As we were playing I was reminded of another hide and seek event. Let me share.

When I was a kid, I played outside a lot. One time, Abby (sister), another kid, and I were playing hide and seek. Now, there are a couple of ways people play hide and seek. We play it where there is a base and as soon as the seeker has finished counting and left base, you are free to leave your hiding place and run to base before they tag you.

Now, Abby and I were hiding inside the house while the other kid was outside on base (big tree) counting. When he finished his counting, he came into the house looking for us. Obviously, we went running outside. This is how it went down:
  • Abby ahead of me. Goes racing out door.
  • Me behind her, closely following.
  • Screen door comes swinging back.
  • I reach my hand out to push the door back open and continue running.
  • Hand and door keep going in their opposite directions, hand going through window.
  • Instant stopping of hide and seek race.
Seriously, I don't think I have ever seen my father jump up from his football watching quite as fast as he did that day. Since my dad was the only adult home, sister and friend had to go to the neighbor's next door while my dad took me to the ER.

After several x-rays, they discovered that I did not in fact have glass in my hand and that if I would have cut a centimeter deeper I would have hit a major artery. Goooood deal. Turns out, I did have to get a (1) stitch though. Baaaad deal. I hate needles. So much. My dad had to distract me by talking about the Royals game we were going to be attending soon.

So, this past Sunday when we were playing hide and seek, Taylor and I were hiding in the backyard, base in front yard. Then he suggests we just run through the house to get there faster.

And then I had flashbacks.

A quick, funny story.

Earlier, I was in the sculpture studio working on my 2 sculptures that are due Monday. With me in the studio are 2 other classmates, one who is an art major and one that I'm pretty sure is not.

Girl who is not says, "I hope to get all this done tonight." (note: she was fixing one sculpture that broke and seemed to have a lot to do on her other. She was not finishing tonight.)

Other art major and I looked at each other, smiled, and then I said, "I have never in my life said that."

He then preceded to laugh, followed by, "I know. It's not that I wouldn't want it to happen. It just isn't feasible."

I'm glad we understand each other.

Why Taylor and I are awesome.

On Saturday, some friends of ours had a 5 year wedding anniversary dance.
Obviously, we went.
And we danced the night away.

So, at one point, we decided to have a little dance off with his cousin and her boyfriend.
We didn't really tell them about this dance off, but whatever.
So while they were all dancing with each other all coupley, what were we doing?
Fist pumping.
A la Jersey Shore style.
Please note: I have never seen an episode of Jersey Shore. But I do know what a fist pump is, and it is my new favorite dance move.
Fo reals.

Later when we were talking of our dance off, Taylor's brother asked us why we were fist pumping.
Taylor's response: Because we're awesome.

It is true.

Whoooooooooot.

Happy New Moon Week.
Get excited.
Bought my tickets last week.
We are watching on Friday at 9:30 in the pm.
Woot woot.

I went to Brookfield theatre website to see what time they were playing the movie.
The "poster" they had online wasn't even the real movie poster.
It was a fan made poster.
Classy. And professional.
But we're not going there.
Cause they didn't even have the movie times up.

I like how Ellen has a countdown to Rob on her show.
When I was watching last week, I kept seeing "__ days til Robert Pattinson!"
I got excited every time I saw it.
AND Kellen Lutz in on on Wednesday.
And D Fanning on today.
It's a Twilight week on Ellen.
Woot woot again.

Funny Story:
I bought the Vanity Fair magazine yesterday.
You know, the one with all the Rob hotness in it.
Yeah, well I was going to just go to WalMarks so I could use the self-checkout that is so handy when you don't want to be judged on what you are buying.
Well, WalMarks didn't have them out yet.
And I had seen that the bookstore here in town did have them out.
So I just decided to get it there.
Well, Erin wanted me to pick her up a copy too.
Cause, you know, we all need our own little bit of Rob hotness.
So not only was I buying one magazine, I was buying TWO magazines.
I chose what line I went through by which cashier looked like they would judge me less.
And I didn't make any eye contact.
Totally worth it though.
Cause that article and pictures were fantastic.

Well, I need to get some studying in before Ellen comes on.
Peace.

Clothing

Everyone who knows me knows I love my sweatpants.
Side funny story: Taylor was over one day and we were talking with my mom about how I was wearing sweats. He told my mother that he was going to buy me some more sweats for Christmas. She was not ok with this idea.
Anyways, I like to be comfortable.
But here lately I have been feeling the need to dress a little nicer on occasion.
I don't know, sometimes I feel like looking cute when I go to classes.

Once during the summer I had one of those "looking cute" days.
I think I was going out with Taylor or friends or something.
Anyways, I put on my skinny jeans, nice shirt, and off I went.
Well, instead of my mom commenting on how I actually looked decent, she asked me if I was going "goth on her".
Not. Even. Kidding.
This is the outfit I was wearing at the time:
(please ignore the ugliness of our bathroom)

No Momma, I am not "going goth on you".

Ohhh honey.

Here this past summer, I introduced Taylor to my two favorite things: Harry Potter and Twilight.

Now, he didn’t read either of them, but I did get him to go see the new Harry movie and we are in the process of watching the rest.
And I got him to watch Twilight with me, which even I was shocked I could do.

Well, I’m sitting here kinda watching the VMAs (yeah, Kanye is kinda a douche…) when the New Moon trailer comes up.
Woot.
Pretty much the only reason I’m watchin.
Anyways, Taylor sends me a text, and the following text convo goes down:

him: im watchn a new moon trailer on mtv
me: oh i saw. dont worry. looks exciting huh?!
him: yeah it does. edward did.
(note: I think he’s on Team Ed and doesn’t even know it..:))
me: heck yes. you gonna go watch it with me when it comes out??
him: ya so he does die?
me: you’re just gonna have to wait and see if he dies i guess…..
him: i’ll be there.

Sweet.

I managed to not tell him the fate of Eddie Cullen.
Which is surprising, since I like to give away spoilers like crazy.
I feel like if he was with me, he would have gotten it out of me.

Funny Story (from a while ago.)

I wrote this a long time ago. And am just now getting to posting it.
I'm such a slacker...

Anyways, for my birthday we went to go see a movie.
My sister and my cousin went to see Year One while my mom, one of my friends, and I went to see The Proposal.

First off: I love Ryan Reynolds.

And now for the actual funny story.
One of the trailers they showed before the movie was New Moon.
My friend and I got really excited.
Now, if you haven't seen it, you should.
Here, I'll make it easy for ya.

Well, Mom isn't into the Twilight business.
I'm kinda really ok with that.
But we were sitting there.
Watching the trailer.
And the part where Jacob shows up all shirtless comes up.
And I hear this two seats down from me:
"Woah!"
Who did this come from??
My mother.

Mom, he's young enough to be your son.

That time I saw Ron's Yule Ball get-up

That time was Saturday.
At approximately 4:45ish.
But for now, I will recount the entire trip.

Friday:
After work, I ran home, showered, finished packing, and picked up my sister.
Then, we headed off to Quincy.
Met everyone else, had good foods, and hung out.
And since this was a Harry Potter trip, we had to play Harry Potter Clue, of course.
And....I lost.
Hermione Granger lost all of her house points.
But, whatever.

Saturday:
After getting about 4 hours of sleep, we had to awake and get on the train.
It is very hard to sleep on a train.

Anyways, we made it to Chicago.
After taking our schtuff to the hotel, we headed out for lunch at the Rainforest Cafe.
At the hotel, they gave us a coupon for a free appetizer.
And it was fantastic.

Then it was time for the Museum of Science and Industry.
So, we hopped on a bus, and away we went.
After walking around the museum for a while, 4:00 finally came.
Which meant fun times.
Before we went into the Exhibition, they had some trivia questions.
I think we embarrassed my sister by our awesomeness in remembering spells.
She, however, returned the favor.

So, before you go in, they pick a couple of people to get sorted.
This little kid gets up there and the worker-dude (sounding all British-y) is like,
"Say 'Ello to (insert kid's name)"
Everyone replies,
"'Ello (kid's name)"
Then from my sister you hear, quite loudly in fact,
"'Ello Govena!"
It was the funniest dern thing ever.

And then they open the doors.
Now, Abby walks through exhibits quickly.
The rest of us take everything in.
Read what the labels say.
Look at the details.
Comment on how the colors look different in the movie (true story).
So, needless to say, she was ahead of us for most of the time.
But it was fantastic.
If you like HP (who wouldn't?!) and have the opportunity, go and see it.
The entire time, we were wowed by how small they are.
Emma Watson is a little thing.
And they had Dan Radcliffe's costume from Sorcerer's Stone, and he was a youngen.
It was cute.

They had quaffel throwing.
I would make an awesome chaser, just so you know.

And they saved the best for last.
The Yule Ball outfits.
Ron's Yule Ball outfit is my favorite from the whole series.
And I was within arm's length away from them.
I didn't touch though.
They also had some of Cedric's outfits.
Which made me even more happy.
I think it was Kaitlin who was a little ahead of me and said,
"They have some of Rob's costumes up there."
I could have touched them too, but I didn't.

We all bought wands in the gift shops.
We're cool.

After we left the museum, we went to the Navy Pier.
The hotel gave us another coupon for a free appetizer at Bubba Gump's and we got a VIP coupon.
This handy VIP coupon took us to the front of the line.
Where we should have waited for 2 hours for a table, we waited 3 minutes.
'Twas awesome.
And the Cirque du Soleil thing was amazing.
Those people are crazy talented and bendy.

Overall, the weekend was fantastic.
It was nice to get away for a little bit.
I couldn't take pictures inside the exhibit, but they did have the flying car outside for picture-taking.
So here you go:
:)

A "Holy Balls!" Story

Let me set the scene for you a little bit.

Here I am at work, bored as ever, patiently waiting for the 9:15 bell to ring so I can go to break. The bell rings, I grab my purse, buy myself a coffee, and head to the lunch room. Like I do on every break, I dig my phone out of my purse to check if anybody had attempted to contact me.

At the same time, my uncle, aunt, cousin, and grandma are wondering around New York, doing fun things on their little vacation.

When I pull out my phone, I noticed I had a text message from my cousin that woke me up more than that little 30 cent cup of coffee. She writes:

"I just saw a guy that looks a heck of a lot like Edward Cullen"

Because I am slightly obsessed and a little bit of a stalker, apparently, I started freaking out a little. Because I know the answer to the following question.

Do you know who is in New York right now that looks "a heck of a lot like Edward Cullen"???

That's right. Ed Cullen himself. He is currently there filming a new movie.

I told her to be looking out for him some more. She freaked out a little when I told her that she probably did see him. When she gets back I'm gonna have a couple questions for her.

Did he have the ray bans on?
Was he looking grungy as ever?
Did you whip out some mad camera skills and take a creep-tastic picture that would make the paparazzi jealous?

Now, I know my little freak out kinda goes against my "What I would do if I saw Rob Pattinson" post, but I don't care.

Funny Story

So Momma and I have been on a "getting healthy" kick. Twice a week we have been going to this workout center and doing one of the classes. And I'm gonna suggest we go for a walk the other days. I've been trying to eat healthier and drink way less soda, which I have been pretty good at surprisingly.

Anyways, today we were working out and we were doing exercises on those big exercise balls. While we were going through it all, the only thing I could think of was that time on The Office when Dwight gets one of those big balls (that's what she said) and brings it to work and Jim pops it. The other ladies were even talking about how it would be better for your back and all if you got rid of your work desk chair and used an exercise ball instead.

Good times...

My momma

I like my mom a lot.
For serious.
She says the most random things.
(This is probably where my sister and I get this...)
We were watching American Idol the other day.
Now, I haven't been paying attention to this season.
Because I don't have the time.
But I have heard about all the contestants and everything.
Anyways, my momma thinks Adam Lambert is weird.
She says that he seems like a nice guy and all and he can sing, but he's weird.
I didn't really completely figure out what she meant or how he acquired this "weirdness" by her, but oh well.
Then, this came out of her mouth:

"He's just, like, a dirty weird. I'd be like, 'Don't touch me you're weird.'"

I laughed for a good long time about this.
Because he doesn't seem like a dirty guy to me.

I wonder what she would say about this cat:

Fun times

This is going to be a really random post. It is pretty much gonna just be things that come up in my head as I sit here and do other things.

So my roommate and I are really fun people.
I'm pretty sure people think we are drunk when we are, in fact, sober.
We tend to be loud and obnoxious.
And I take delight in that.
Yesterday and Sunday, we did funny skips/walks in the parking lot after eating free finals week donuts on campus.
Yesterday, we specifically parked in the back of the parking lot so we had more room to do our funny skips/walks.
Cause we are cool people.

I made a beanstalk for my fibers project.
That's right, I now have a 14 foot long fabric beanstalk. It is pretty sweet.
I have extra leaves.

Oliver Wood is my background on my computer. Just so you know.
He is one of the underrated Hotties of Hogwarts I feel.
You know, along with Ron and Cedric and Seamus and Draco and Harry.
Any more come to mind??

I'm watching Harry Potter right now, as a matter of fact.
Goblet of Fire to be more specific.
Cause it is my favorite.
And not just because of Cedric.
I actually really like the Triwizard Tournament.
And this is the one where all hell breaks loose.

Speaking of HP, Kaitlin and I were discussing the various deaths in this here series and who's death made us cry.
We mentioned, you know, Sirius and that death in book 6 (I'll keep it spoiler free for those of you who are just movie watchers. shame shame. ..although I was once like you (and I liked to do the wild thing. haha good song).)
Anyways, I mentioned how I still cry when Cedric dies.
My roommate's reaction when like this: weird look, followed by "I don't give a crap about Cedric."
I about had a heart attack!
Ok, maybe not, but still.
I replied with "But like, he's dead and Harry is scared and Voldemort is back and...it is just really emotional."
Cause it is.
(Just so you know, according to my spell checker-thing on Firefox, Voldemort is spelled wrong. As is Triwizard. ...Firefox just doesn't know...)

I gots me a job interview tomorrow!! Woot woot! Wish me luck.

After we did funny walks/skips in the parking lot, we decided to drive around and listen to Electric Avenue.
Really loudly.
And we danced.
Cause you know, we're cool people remember.

I have been letting my hair go curly here lately.
It is weird. My hair normally is just straight, and here lately it has been going wavy/curly.
If I knew that all it would take would be some mousse and hairspray I would have been doing this a long time ago.
It sure is a lot easier than straightening it.
Taylor likes it.
He told me.

I am going to Chicago this summer.
For reals.
We're going to the Museum of Science and Industry for the Harry Potter exhibit.
I'm super duper excited.
As long as I get to see Ron Weasley's Yule Ball get-up, it will be a successful trip.

haha Filch running pretty much makes my day. and Barty Crouch Sr. has a Hitler-stash.

You know what is really neato??
Rupert Grint has an ice cream truck.
I really hope he, like, drives it around England.
That's the coolest, most random thing ever.
For this reason, among others, we should be friends.

Well, sorry for the most random blog post in the history of blog posts. I'm sure you enjoyed it though.
I'm off.
Peace.

C'est finals week.

And I am taking a break.
How'd you like that French action in the heading?? I have that final Friday...

Funny story:
I know how you like my funny stories, so here's a good one.
I was sittin' here on my computer, with my iTunes on shuffle, reading some interesting stuff.
And by "interesting stuff", I mean I was into it earlier, but now have completely forgot what it was.
Anywhosits, I was all focused on my reading, with my face 6 inches from the screen (I may go blind) and suddenly I hear, quite loudly as a matter of fact, this:

"Are you afraid?!"

That's right.
Robert Pattinson/Eddo was screaming these words at me.
And let me tell you, I was a little afraid.
I may have almost peed my pants.
If Kaitlin would have been here, she would have gotten a good laugh.
So, why was this being screamed at me, you ask?
Well, because that's how the Bella's Lullaby Remix starts.
You know, the one I got for free when I ordered our Twilight tickets online.
And iTunes finds it necessary to play it on high volumes when it comes up on shuffle.

Alrighty. I gots to go study for the final I have tonight.
Wish me luck!!
